Dear Moody Medicine Patient and Family,
We are writing to share an important change that will affect patients who currently receive healthcare through Medicaid.
Effective January 1, 2027, Moody Medicine will no longer participate with Medicaid, and we will no longer be able to provide ongoing care to patients whose healthcare coverage is through Medicaid.
We want you to know that this decision was not made quickly or easily, but rather with a sad heart.
Moody Medicine was built around the belief that every person deserves to be cared for with compassion, dignity, and respect. Many of our Medicaid patients have trusted us with their healthcare and the healthcare of their children and families for years. We value those relationships deeply, which is why this is one of the most difficult decisions we have had to make as a practice.
Unfortunately, the financial reality of providing care under the current Medicaid reimbursement system has reached a point that our clinic can no longer sustain.
We want to be transparent about that because you deserve an honest explanation. The reimbursement Moody Medicine receives for many Medicaid services does not adequately cover the cost of providing that care… including our clinical staff, medical supplies, vaccines and medications where applicable, technology, facilities, and the many other resources necessary to safely operate a medical practice.
We have worked for a long time to find ways to continue serving our Medicaid population. Ultimately, however, continuing under the current structure would threaten our ability to keep Moody Medicine financially sustainable and available to care for our community as a whole.
This is not a decision we wanted to make. It is a decision we believe we have been forced to make in order to preserve the future of our practice.
** Please note that our Medicare and Ambetter patients are not affected by this change. We will continue to see you just as we always have. **
What this means for you now
Through December 31, 2026:
If you already have an appointment scheduled with Moody Medicine before January 1, 2027, we will continue to see you and care for you as usual. You may also schedule any appointments needed during this time.
Beginning January 1, 2027:
You will need to establish care with another healthcare provider who participates with your Medicaid plan.
If you currently have an appointment scheduled with Moody Medicine for January 1, 2027 or later, please begin making arrangements with a new provider and contact our office regarding that future appointment.
We especially encourage families to plan ahead if a child will need an annual well-child examination, vaccinations, medication follow-up, chronic-condition management, or other ongoing care in 2027. Establishing with a new provider before that care is due can help prevent an interruption in treatment.
Finding a new healthcare provider
Our goal is not simply to tell you that something is changing. We want to help you understand where you may be able to continue receiving care.

You may also contact the Member Services number on the back of your Medicaid insurance card for assistance locating participating providers.
Transferring your medical records
Once you have selected a new healthcare provider and scheduled your appointment, Moody Medicine will help make the transition as smooth as possible.
Please contact our office at (432) 332-5200 to find out more about what is needed to obtain the appropriate medical-record authorization. You have two options:
- Come into our office to sign a Medical Release form and we will fax your records to your new provider’s office; or
- Your new provider can fax a Medical Records Request form to us and we will then send your records over to them.
Please do not wait until you are sick or need medication to begin this process. Establishing care early gives both you and your new provider time to receive your records and become familiar with your medical history.
Final Thoughts
Most importantly, thank you, and please understand that we are sorry.
We recognize that this change may be frustrating, disappointing, or even upsetting. Please know that none of those feelings are lost on us.
We entered medicine to take care of people, and circumstances that make it harder for patients to access a trusted healthcare provider are painful for us as well. We sincerely hope that in the near future, governmental changes system-wide can change positively so that we may be able to serve you again. That is our goal. If you feel so inclined, reach out to your congressmen and women to voice your concerns over this issue. If enough voices speak up, we can grow loud enough for those in power to listen.
Until December 31, 2026, our commitment is to continue caring for you and to do what we reasonably can to help you transition successfully to your next healthcare provider.
Thank you for trusting Moody Medicine with your care and the care of your family. It has been a privilege we do not take lightly.
With sincere appreciation,
Dr. James Paul Moody
